My Workout Program

habits strength Nov 21, 2023

I started doing 5 x 5 Strong Lifts earlier this year and saw quick progress in the first few weeks.

The program is simple. There are only two workouts with 3 lifts and 5 reps per lift.

Workout A: Squat, Bench Press, Barbell Row
Workout B: Squat, Overhead Press, Deadlift

Every time you do the workout, you try to increase the weights. Sometimes by 30 lbs (like today) and sometimes it'll be a 1lb increase.

What I love about the program:

1. It's simple. It has structure and novelty. I know exactly what I am going to do every day without having to consult videos, and I get novelty by trying to increase the weight and see if I can do it.

2. You get strong fast. When you're a newbie at lifting, you progress pretty quickly. You're able to add on weights pretty quickly. As you have heavier weights, it's a bit harder to add on weight.

3. I feel strong, proud, and like a badass. I love seeing my muscles. I love seeing the weights increase. You feel so proud of yourself for doing hard things.

If you don't have a lifting program, give 5 x 5 a try.
